BABYLONSTOREN

We thought we would post a little bit about Babylonstoren with last week bringing the promise of Spring. Summer is looming for the Southern hemisphere, as the weather starts to change back to warmer, happier days, we start to migrate back home for the Summer.

After spending some time home earlier this year to shoot our campaign and have some business meetings we decided to take a day off and enjoy the small things that life has to offer. A time of reflection and relaxation, gratitude and appreciation for the right people in our lives and the memories and moments we have created so far together this year.

Babylonstoren is set in 3,5 hectares of cultivated fruit and vegetables with the most beautiful surroundings, its without a doubt one of our favourite and most returned to places in Cape Town. A 40 minute drive out of Cape town surrounded by winelands and orchids and you’re practically in heaven. Some history about the farm : It was inspired by the historic Company’s Garden in Cape Town, which supplied sailing ships of the Dutch East India Company with fresh vegetables and fruit during the days when the Cape was a halfway station between Europe and Asia. Aswell as the link back to the mythological hanging gardens of Babylon.

The garden spa like everything else at Babylonstoren is carefully thought out with each attention to detail being their main priority. The one thing we love about the spa and gardens where their desire to merge the ever changing seasons, creating glass houses and spa rooms that are still engalved with nature no matter what season. Big oak trees and delectable ripe fruit hanging off each branch, the spa is set in the middle of the farm close to the green house restaurant and has the most incredible pool and facilities aswell as the treatment rooms that make you never want to leave.

My parents both help me a lot with our small business (dad and daughter duo) but mum is involved sometimes too, to show my appreciation and thanks to them I treated them to a spa day and oasis retreat at Babylonstoren. While they had their massages I spent the day first at the outdoor spa pool, which is perfectly tranquil and a place for still and silence. I was the only one at the garden pool and comfortably stretched out and soaked up some much needed sunrays, I lay back on the deck chairs obviously while lying on our stone colour Turkish towel - which fit in perfectly with the colour scheme. The massages you can choose from are endless, making their decision pretty difficult.

We then went and had lunch at the garden restuarant placed under the big leafy oak next to the greenhouse. At the time the satsuma’s were perfect and ready to be tasted, to be honest I probably had about 10. One of our favourite things to do though besides the extravaganza of perhaps endulging in a nights stay at the hotel is the endless freedom you feel walking around the gardens, one of our secret hidden gems though is definitely the cactus garden and tea garden. One last thing we did before we left was wandered around their delicatessen and stocked up on all their fresh produce of jams, soaps and cordial. You’ll find us there again this summer.
